AC Milan Restructuring: Allegri Could Stay
KOMPAS.com - AC Milan owner, Gerry Cardinale, is preparing three scenarios to improve the club, including bringing back former CEO, Adriano Galliani.
AC Milan has recently been in turmoil and is planning radical changes after a downturn in recent weeks of the Italian League.
Ahead of the end of the 2025-2026 Italian League season, AC Milan is facing rumours of a major overhaul, including changes in management and coaching staff.
One of the things that reportedly caused AC Milan to become unstable was the departure of club legend, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in 2023.
Since then, AC Milan CEO, Giorgio Furlani has had a lot of influence and has also acted as the club’s decision-maker.
Now, AC Milan can redesign the club’s leadership structure and is reportedly considering several scenarios, as reported by Sky on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The first scenario is to allow Furlani to remain the decision-maker, although AC Milan fans have voiced their desire for the CEO to leave the San Siro Stadium.
However, this scenario of Furlani staying is accompanied by the replacement of Massimiliano Allegri from the Rossoneri coaching position and the appointment of a new figure to replace Igli Tare as Director of Sport.
It is reported that Bologna coach, Vincenzo Italiano and Atalanta official, Tony D’Amico are strong candidates.
Ibrahimovic, who is a former AC Milan striker, is now the club’s senior advisor and can be trusted to run the club’s project together with Technical Director, Geoffrey Moncada.
If the former Swedish national team striker is given full authority, he can appoint a new coach and Director of Sport.
In other words, this new role for Ibrahimovic will be similar to what former Juventus Director, Fabio Paratici held at Fiorentina.
While waiting for a decision from Cardinale as the club owner, Ibrahimovic is reportedly actively making moves and meeting with several stakeholders at AC Milan headquarters.
It is reported that Cardinale will bring back Adriano Galliani, who is no longer in charge at Monza and will work alongside Paolo Scaroni.
If Galliani returns, Massimiliano Allegri will remain in charge of AC Milan, while the Director of Sport position is reportedly to be held by former Juventus official, Matteo Tognozzi or former Sassuolo official, Giovanni Rossi.
The return of Galliani and Allegri, who have both been with AC Milan before, is said to provide a good boost, especially in terms of the club’s relationship with its fans.
