Abuses of power
Abuses of power
On May 25, 1994, in his speech before the 12th National
Banking Congress, President Soeharto explicitly mentioned the
problems of bad loans, like the Bapindo credit fiasco. At that
time the President appealed to all institutions concerned to find
legal ways of solving the problem of bad loans that is now facing
the banks.
This implies that all cases of bad loans must be dealt with,
instead of only focusing on the Golden Key Group case. It is very
probable that most of the bad loan cases are caused by abuses of
power.
It is best if the republic legislators discuss the matters
openly, as they are the only ones who have the full authority to
raise these questions. At the same time, law enforcement bodies
like the Court, the Attorney General and the Police have only
limited rights to be involved with these matters.
