Abuse of female migrant workers
Abuse of female migrant workers
From Media Indonesia
Cases of rape or torture involving Indonesia's female migrant
workers (TKW), as frequently reported by the mass media,
apparently have not motivated Islamic organizations to act. There
has been no news of demonstrations against Kuwait or other Middle
East nations employing the TKW.
On the other hand, when America attacked Iraq, various demos
were staged against the U.S. and donations made to Iraq, instead
of contributing something to the poor in Indonesia. Now with the
TKW cases causing Indonesian women's physical and psychological
suffering, no defense nor response has been made.
In fact, TKW recruiting firms failing to show proper concern
over the fate of the migrant workers they sent abroad deserve
punishment. No more TKW should leave the country before the firms
are put in order. Isn't the abuse of TKW a major issue? Are women
supposed to accept such unfair treatment?
