JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of the DPR RI Commission IV, Alien Mus, has reminded the government not to become complacent despite Indonesia possessing national rice stock reserves reaching 5 million tonnes.

According to him, the government must continue to safeguard the stability of rice supply and prices amid global geopolitical conflicts that could potentially affect the world’s food supply chain.

“This achievement is certainly very positive and serves as proof of the government’s hard work in strengthening food security. However, stability must still be maintained, both in terms of distribution and prices, so that its benefits are truly felt by the public,” Alien stated in his remarks on Friday (24/4/2026).

Therefore, he requested that the government ensure smooth rice distribution to the regions and anticipate potential price surges.

In addition, Commission IV of the DPR is also pushing for the optimisation of Perum Bulog’s role in maintaining market balance, including through market operations if necessary.

“A large stock must be accompanied by good distribution management. Do not let the stock be abundant, but prices remain high in society,” he added.

To ensure a secure supply and stability, he proposed ongoing supervision and appropriate policies to truly maintain national food security on a sustainable basis.

“The achievement of this highest rice stock must ensure stable supply and affordable prices at the community level, so we need to collaborate in joint supervision,” he said.

Amran stated that the data refers to Bulog’s data as of 08.55 WIB today.

“Today we announce 5,000,198 tonnes of rice. This is thanks to all our hard work,” said Amran while directly inspecting the Bulog Warehouse with observers and media crews at JDP Karawang1 LogisticPark, West Java.

Meanwhile, Bulog’s warehouse capacity throughout Indonesia can accommodate 3 million tonnes of rice.

“We have rented again approximately 1,000,000 tonnes of capacity,” Amran said.
