Abu Dhabi Investor Joins Funding for Waldorf Astoria Jakarta, Set to Operate in 2027
Jakarta’s luxury property landscape has just recorded a new milestone. The Waldorf Astoria Jakarta, an ultra-luxury hotel brand that will occupy the top of Autograph Tower, Indonesia’s tallest building, has now officially received a major capital injection from Abu Dhabi. This follows JLL’s success in facilitating a strategic deal with a joint venture scheme between PT Putragaya Wahana and an affiliate of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The transaction also serves as a strong signal of the return of top-tier Middle Eastern investor confidence in the premium hospitality sector in Southeast Asia. Scheduled to welcome the public in 2027, the Waldorf Astoria Jakarta is predicted to radically transform luxury standards in Jakarta. Occupying the pinnacle in the Thamrin Nine mixed-use superblock, the hotel brings a series of unprecedented facilities. It includes a two-level ballroom designed to become the gravitational centre for international-scale Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition (MICE) activities. This accommodation facility is directly connected to Grade A offices, serviced residences, and world-class lifestyle amenities. Head of JLL Indonesia Capital Markets, Jacintha Tabalujan Herzog, described the involvement of investment funds on the scale of ADFD as a crucial milestone for the national property industry. “This transaction proves that premium hospitality assets in Indonesia have magnetic appeal for international sovereign funds,” she stated in comments received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (25/3/2026). “Based on the pipeline we manage, this cross-border investment momentum is predicted to increase significantly in the near future,” added Julien. The entry of Waldorf Astoria into Jakarta through Abu Dhabi funding underscores the close economic partnership between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The robust bilateral relations have now transformed into tangible collaboration in the property and hospitality sectors. The presence of Waldorf Astoria Jakarta is not just about adding to the lineup of luxury hotels, but also about affirming Jakarta’s position as a global business and tourism destination on par with other major world cities.
