ABRI's role

We are aware that the Armed Forces (ABRI) has been molded and trained to be sensitive towards matters that could affect the stability of our security and to quickly react. But as human beings shaped by habits of practice and training, their attitudes tend to carry over into their daily lives.

What we are afraid of is the possibility that such attitudes could be manipulated by irresponsible individuals to benefit their own interests. Such apprehensions gain even more ground when members of ABRI do not make adequate efforts to assess the consequences of their attitudes and actions.

We very much hope that ABRI members can distinguish between attitudes proper when on duty and attitudes that should be adapted to social encounters. Every time we deal with a member who begins an argument saying "I am ABRI", we realize how difficult it will be for us to settle a matter and get what is within our rights.

By making a mutual effort to improve our attitudes, our behavior and the part we play in society, we can hope to strengthen the bond that exists between ABRI and the people. The people would then feel that ABRI belongs to them and thus its interests would be protected, giving the people a sense of security.

Considering the developmental efforts we are making and will be making in the future, ABRI's support is essential to ensure that our work will not be obstructed.
