ABRI members told not to break law
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI) Commander Gen. Feisal Tanjung has ordered all ABRI personnel to refrain from any type of lawbreaking, such as violations, collusion and fighting among themselves or with civilians.
Such acts "can directly or indirectly damage and influence ABRI's prestige in the eyes of the public," Feisal stated in his written speech, which was read by City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Mochammad Hindarto at the city police's monthly ceremony here yesterday.
According to Feisal, ABRI commanders have never been in doubt when made to use harsh punishment against any type of violations committed by their personnel and civilian employees.
"Commanders in each unit have to take care of the development of their personnel," Feisal instructed.
Prior to reading the speech, Hindarto formally fired two city police sergeants, who were found guilty by a military court of violating the existing laws, including one of the officers having two wives.
The two were identified as Second Sergeant Joko Susilo from the Pademangan police subprecinct in North Jakarta and Second Sergeant Hidayat from the City Police Headquarters.
Hindarto took off their police caps, shirts and belts to mark them as no longer being members of the police force.
The ceremony, held on the 17 of every month, was yesterday the last ceremony for Hindarto, who will be replaced by his deputy Brig. Gen. Dibyo Widodo next Friday (not Wednesday as reported yesterday).
"This is my last ceremony with you all," Hindarto said prior to reading Feisal's speech.
"That's why I want to use this time to say farewell to you all and many thanks for your cooperation during my duty here," he told thousands of the city police personnel. (bsr)
