Abpednas and Sucofindo to Build 70 Clean Water Wells from Aceh to Merauke
The National Association of Village Consultative Bodies (Abpednas) and PT Sucofindo (Persero) have begun constructing clean water facilities in villages through a programme to build 70 wells spread across various regions of Indonesia. The programme’s kick-off took place in Meunasah Gampong Lambleut, Darul Kamal Subdistrict, Aceh Besar, marking the start of the project to provide clean water access for rural communities.
This programme forms part of the celebrations for Sucofindo’s 70th anniversary on 22 October 2026 and targets the expansion of basic service access in rural areas. Sucofindo’s President Director, Sandry Pasambuna, stated that providing clean water is one of the efforts to strengthen national water resilience and community welfare.
“This clean water provision programme for communities is also an implementation of Asta Cita in realising national water resilience and sovereignty to improve community welfare,” Sandry said in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
Sandry explained that building clean water wells is part of the company’s commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility and sustainability principles based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). According to Sandry, the member of the state-owned enterprises’ Survey Services Holding is striving to expand its social contributions that directly impact communities.
“We hope that Sucofindo’s presence is not only felt through business services but also through direct social impacts that touch community needs,” Sandry said.
The programme also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in improving clean water access and sustainable village development. As a Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) company, Sucofindo ensures aspects of quality, safety, sustainability, and standard compliance in the construction of clean water facilities.
“We hope that the collaboration between Sucofindo and Abpednas can strengthen synergies between state-owned enterprises, village organisations, and stakeholders in supporting inclusive, healthy, and sustainable village development,” Sandry said.
Through the programme titled “Jaga Air Bersih untuk Desa” (Protect Clean Water for Villages), clean water facility construction is being carried out at 70 locations in Sucofindo’s operational areas across Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua. The programme is projected to directly benefit around 3,500 to 7,000 rural residents who still face limitations in clean water access.
Abpednas General Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Education Sector of the Indonesian Journalists Association for DKI Jakarta, Indra Utama, views this collaboration as a form of cross-sector synergy in strengthening village development and fulfilling basic community needs.
“Through this collaboration, Abpednas and Sucofindo aim to ensure that development reaches villages in need. This programme also provides concrete contributions to achieving SDGs and more equitable village development,” Indra said.
Indra added that clean water access not only relates to basic needs but also influences health, productivity, and quality of life in rural communities. The programme is seen as aligned with SDG 6 on ensuring sustainable access to clean water and sanitation.
Abpednas Supervisory Board Chairman Reda Manthovani emphasised the importance of governance and accountability in implementing social programmes targeting direct community needs.
“The involvement of various stakeholders in this programme is expected to strengthen public trust while accelerating the equitable distribution of basic services in rural areas,” Reda said.
