ABP Prepares Legal Steps Regarding Amien Rais's Statement: This is a Vile Accusation

He assessed that the narrative constructed by Amien Rais far exceeds the bounds of reasonableness. According to him, Amien Rais has dragged in issues of personal morality without any accountable evidence. He even viewed the statement as a form of agitation that could damage political stability and public confidence in the government. “If criticism is delivered with data and arguments, it is healthy. But if what is spread is wild assumptions, gossip, and vile insinuations, it is no longer democracy. It is character assassination,” Supriyanto continued. In addition, Supriyanto assessed that Amien Rais’s statement shows a tendency towards increasingly extreme and irrational rhetoric. According to him, the public deserves healthy political discourse. “Statements like this are more like delusional opinions forced into facts. It is very regrettable if they come from a figure who was once known as part of the reform movement,” Supriyanto said. His side assured that they are preparing legal steps focused on allegations of defamation and the dissemination of false information. In his statement, Amien linked this closeness to issues of morality and called it exceeding professional boundaries. Amien also cited historical analogies and claims he described as “public views,” which then sparked controversy in various circles. Ummat Party DPP Chairman Aznur Syamsu responded to the matter. He said that Amien Rais’s statement has no connection to his party. “That is a personal statement from Mr Amien, with no relation to Ummat Party,” he said when contacted on Saturday (2/5/2026). “We from Ummat Party regret statements like that from Mr Amien Rais, especially since he is a figure, at least he was once a figure. It has no relation to current national and state issues. Mr Amien Rais is offside,” he added.
