Abolition,
Abolition,
New Order trick
From Rakyat Merdeka
The crisis befalling Indonesia is a major consequence of the
blunder made during the 32-year rule of the New Order regime
under Soeharto.
This crisis has been protracted, with the emergence of the
post-Soeharto government of reformists who are too immature to
lead the country. They have assumed the position of a new force
that is supposed to save the nation from the economic quandary.
The present government comprises reform figures devoid of the
populist spirit once cherished and fostered by first-president
Sukarno.
The proposed granting of an "abolition" (revocation of
charges) to Soeharto due to his deteriorating state of health
constitutes disguised trickery by remaining New Order
conspirators to subvert history for the second time, by
sacrificing the population for the sake of a safe haven for
Soeharto and his cronies.
In order to resolve the accumulating issues the nation is
facing, President Megawati should first have the courage to
straighten out our history factually and openly, followed by the
formation of a transitional government firmly based on the
Pancasila state philosophy and the 1945 Constitution, truly
imbued with the aspirations of the Aug. 17, 1945 proclamation of
independence.
