Abdurrahman breaks glasses

SURABAYA: Abdurrahman Wahid, the chairman of the Nahdlatul
Ulama Moslem movement and leader of the Forum for Democracy, was
forced to cancel a seminar appearance at the last minute on
Tuesday because he broke his glasses.

Gus Dur, as Abdurrahman is popularly known, was just about to
embark on his flight from Jakarta on Tuesday when the incident
happened, the Antara news agency reported.

He was scheduled as the main speaker at the seminar on
national building from the religious perspective organized by
students at the Petra Christian University.

The organizers said Gus Dur had sent his apology for not being
able to attend the seminar. (emb)
