Abdul's Story of Attending Independence Day Celebration at Bundaran HI: Wanted to See Carnival and Dance

A number of residents began crowding the Bundaran HI area in Central Jakarta to take part in the series of celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. A resident from Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Abdul Hadi Zamzami (45), said he deliberately came to Bundaran HI this evening to seek entertainment.

“I wanted to find some entertainment. I wanted to see the carnival and dance too because there are celebrities as well. We dance, we sing too,” said Abdul Hadi Zamzami when met in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026).

Abdul received an iron as a prize when he took part in an interactive quiz with prizes. He said he was happy to be able to take the iron home.

“Happy, happy, I really like it,” he said.

Abdul admitted that this year was the first time he had attended the Independence Day celebration at Bundaran HI. He hopes that on this 81st anniversary, Indonesia can become safer and the economy stable.

“My hope is that Indonesia is free from disease, Jakarta is free from traffic jams, the economy is normal and stable. And lastly, that the environment is safe, calm and orderly. Security is guaranteed,” he hoped.
