The government faces a policy dilemma with no truly comfortable options. PT ABC President Indonesia is strengthening its commitment to sustainability by integrating a 1.3 MW rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at its production facility in Karawang, West Java. This clean energy project was developed in collaboration with SUN Energy as part of efforts to introduce renewable energy sources that can be directly utilised in factory operations. This step is taken alongside the company’s global market expansion, now reaching various regions from Asia, Europe, to North America. ABCPI views strengthening environmentally friendly production practices as an essential need amid rising sustainability demands in the global supply chain. The implementation of the rooftop PLTS is projected to generate more than 1.94 million kWh of clean energy per year. Environmentally, the use of solar energy has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 1,515 tonnes per year, equivalent to planting more than 25,000 trees. Chief Operating Officer of ABCPI, Dwi Hatmadji, emphasised that this step is part of the company’s long-term strategy. “For us, maintaining product quality must go hand in hand with strengthening production practices that are increasingly responsible to the environment. The integration of solar energy in this facility is part of our long-term strategy to strengthen efficient, responsible operations aligned with the direction of the global energy transition,” he stated, quoted from a written statement received on Wednesday (8/4). As an industry with high energy needs, the use of rooftop PLTS is seen as a concrete solution to drive operational decarbonisation. In addition to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, this step also increases energy efficiency at production facilities. From the developer’s perspective, SUN Energy views the adoption of rooftop PLTS in the industrial sector as one of the effective ways to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. Director of Power at SUN, Jefferson Kuesar, appreciated ABCPI’s step in bringing clean energy directly to the production line. He hopes that more industry players will follow similar steps and actively communicate sustainability initiatives to the public. The collaboration between the industrial sector and renewable energy developers is seen as key to accelerating the national energy transition, particularly through direct implementation in company operational areas. This rooftop PLTS initiative is an important step in efforts to reduce operational emissions while strengthening the clean energy transition in the national health sector. The initiative marks the second important step for the company in supporting the clean energy transition in Indonesia and accelerating the achievement of the national Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) records that the installed capacity of rooftop PLTS as of July 2025 has reached 538 MWp, spread across 10,882 PLN customers.
