ABB wins Indonesian order
ZURICH (Reuter): Electrical engineering group ABB Asea Brown Boveri AG said yesterday it had been awarded a second contract to deliver coal-fired boilers, with a value of around US$250 million, to a private power plant in Indonesia.
ABB said in a statement that the order was placed by PT Jawa Power, which will own and operate the station, part of the Paiton power project located about 100 km southeast of Surabaya in East Java.
Under the contract, ABB will design, fabricate and commission two 610 megawatt boiler islands, known as Paiton Units Five and Six, part of Indonesia's policy to promote private sector power projects.
The equipment will be erected by a consortium of ABB and P.T. Jurong Engineering Lestari of Indonesia.
Paiton Six is expected to be commercially operational by July 1999 and Paiton Five in January 2000.
The plant will be fueled by Indonesian coal and the electricity will be sold to the local utility, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
