A newborn baby was found abandoned in the toilet of the Sancaka 84B train travelling from Yogyakarta to Surabaya on Saturday morning. The discovery was made by railway staff around 7:20 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, and the infant was promptly evacuated when the train arrived at Solo Balapan Station.

Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta, stated that the baby was found in the toilet of the executive carriage. After the train stopped at Solo Balapan Station at 7:30 a.m., the infant was handed over to the station’s health post for an initial medical examination, where the baby was declared to be in good condition. The train subsequently continued its journey to Surabaya.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to find the person who abandoned the baby. Banjarsari Police Chief Kompol Harno stated that the Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting a series of inquiries, including examining the scene, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and analysing CCTV footage. Authorities are also coordinating with PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta to track down the perpetrator.

Harno confirmed that the baby is currently receiving intensive care at Bhayangkara Hospital in Solo and is in a healthy condition. He noted that the baby was found wrapped in clothes and accompanied only by a carton of milk, with no identity documents left behind. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation and are calling for greater community awareness regarding child protection.
