Jakarta — The Social Services Office (Sudinsos) of South Jakarta Administrative City has confirmed that an abandoned infant found near the entrance of SD Tarakanita I Primary School on Jalan Barito II Number 54, RT 02 RW 04, Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, has been transferred to the Tunas Bangsa Infant Child Welfare Centre (PSAA Balita).

“The abandoned infant discovered in the Kebayoran Baru area has been transferred from Kebayoran Baru General Hospital to PSAA Balita Tunas Bangsa,” said Bernard Tambunan, head of South Jakarta Sudinsos, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The infant, who was initially found with jaundice and is now in good health, was transferred on Monday (16 March) at 1:00 PM local time.

According to Tambunan, South Jakarta Sudinsos initially transferred the infant to the Bangun Daya I Social Welfare Centre (PSBI), Kedoya. “Subsequently, PSBI Bangun Daya I transferred the child to PSAA Balita Tunas Bangsa,” he said.

South Jakarta Sudinsos provided care for the male infant on Wednesday (4 March) due to his jaundiced condition. The government ensured immediate assistance by placing the child under medical care.

The placement at the welfare centre also provides an opportunity for members of the public who wish to adopt the infant to do so by following established legal procedures.

The infant was initially discovered when a school teacher arrived at the institution for class preparation. Upon reaching the school gate, the teacher spotted a suspicious object near a garden and called the school security guard to inspect it together.

The two witnesses checked the item and found a living infant wrapped in a flower-patterned blanket. The security guard subsequently reported the discovery to the local neighbourhood chief (ketua RW), who immediately contacted the community policing officer (Bhabinkamtibmas) of Kramat Pela village.

Officers arrived at the scene at 5:00 AM local time to conduct further investigation. The infant was then handed over to South Jakarta Sudinsos, and the case was processed by Kebayoran Baru Police Station.
