Abandoned Boarding House on Village Land Marks Latest Corruption Case Against Former Condongcatur Chief
A boarding house and inn built on village treasury land in Pringwulung, Condongcatur, Sleman, now sits abandoned and sealed following a corruption investigation. The property, located on Plot 88, is known as Jogja Amazon Green 2 and was operated by former Condongcatur village chief Reno Candra Sangaji, who has been named a suspect.
Based on observations at the location on Jalan Rajawali No. 5, the one-storey building is closed. A security post stands at the front, and the main access gate is shut. The parking area is overgrown with weeds. The building features a temple-like facade with two stone statues. Inside, the lobby is in disarray, and a yellow sealing sticker is affixed to one of the glass doors. Beyond the lobby, rows of rooms stretch to the west, with a small swimming pool covered in moss at the rear. A local resident, Barata, said the inn had been closed for about two months and was sealed by the Civil Service Police Unit. He noted that tenants’ belongings were removed before the closure.
Reno Candra Sangaji was named a suspect in two separate cases of alleged corruption involving the misuse of village treasury land. The first case, concerning land in Gandok, is being handled by the Yogyakarta Regional Police, where Reno has been detained since 22 June. Police stated that the unauthorized rental of the Gandok land caused state losses of IDR 1.74 billion. The second case, involving the Pringwulung land where the Jogja Amazon Green 2 inn stands, is being handled by the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors allege that Reno and a former village official, identified as K, illegally leased the land without permission from the Governor of Yogyakarta, resulting in state losses of IDR 4.22 billion. Reno has not been detained in the second case as he is already in custody for the first.
