JAKARTA — The use of public transport during the 2026 Eid homecoming period is considered capable of enhancing travel safety whilst reducing the risk of road accidents.

Transport analyst Deddy Herlambang stated that the public should consider using mass transport modes such as trains, planes, or ships during homecoming travels.

According to him, the use of private vehicles, particularly motorcycles, remains one of the contributing factors to the high number of accidents during the homecoming rush.

He believes that government policy offering discounted public transport fares can serve as an incentive for the public to switch from private vehicles to mass transport.

According to Deddy, the discounted fares apply to several transport modes, including trains, planes, and ships.

“During this year’s Eid homecoming, the government is offering discounted fares for public transport users, including trains, planes, and ships,” he said.

Additionally, the free bus homecoming programme organised by local and private authorities is also considered capable of helping reduce the use of private vehicles during the homecoming season.

According to him, if more people switch to public transport, the congestion of vehicles on roads during the homecoming rush also has the potential to decrease.

Consequently, homecoming journeys are expected to proceed more safely and orderly for travellers.
