AAJI: Sharia Life Insurance Premiums Reach Rp4.41 Trillion in Q1 2026
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI), Albertus Wiroyo, stated that premium income from sharia life insurance business units reached Rp4.41 trillion throughout the first quarter of this year. This figure represents a 32.2 per cent year-on-year decrease compared to the Rp6.51 trillion achieved during the January-March 2025 period.
“Despite the decline during this period, the sharia segment remains a vital part of efforts to expand access to financial protection that meets the needs of the community,” said Albertus Wiroyo during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The association is committed to supporting the growth of the sharia insurance industry through the spin-off of sharia insurance business units, a process mandated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to be completed no later than the end of December 2026.
“This indicates that the conventional segment remains the primary channel for life insurance protection for the Indonesian people,” Albertus noted.
Based on product type, he explained that traditional insurance products remain the main pillar of the life insurance industry’s premium income, contributing Rp30.10 trillion, although this achievement saw a 2.9 per cent year-on-year decline. Conversely, unit-linked products, or Investment-Linked Insurance Products (PAYDI), are seeing increased interest, with growth of 4.1 per cent year-on-year to reach Rp17.17 trillion.
