AAI Nasional Bersatu Declared, Championing Spirit of Unity

An Extraordinary National Conference (Munaslub) for Reconciliation has given birth to a new organisation named the Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia Nasional Bersatu (AAI Nasional Bersatu). In the forum held in Jakarta on Saturday (4/7/2026), Prof. Jamin Ginting and Ruth M. Simamora were elected as the first Chairman and Secretary-General of the organisation resulting from the unification of two AAI boards. The election of the new leadership was the culmination of the Joint Reconciliation Munaslub, which previously agreed to unite the two AAI boards led by Arman Hanis and Ranto Simanjuntak. “Today we declare the establishment of a new organisation called the Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia Nasional Bersatu. I hereby declare this organisation established as of Friday, 3 July 2026,” said Jamin Ginting in an official statement on Sunday (5/7). Jamin Ginting stated that the new board will immediately form the organisational structure at both the Central Executive Board (DPP) and Branch Executive Board (DPC) levels. All members from the two previous boards will also become part of AAI Nasional Bersatu. “With the election of this board, we will form a joint leadership, both at the DPP and DPC levels. All members from both boards automatically become members of the Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia Nasional Bersatu. This serves as a shared platform for advocates throughout Indonesia,” said the Pelita Harapan University (UPH) professor. According to Jamin, the successful reconciliation is a significant milestone for advocate organisations in Indonesia. He assessed that the unification of the two boards proves that differences can be resolved through deliberation and a spirit of togetherness. “This is the first reconciliation of its kind. We hope AAI Nasional Bersatu becomes a role model for other advocate organisations to reunite,” he said. Secretary-General-elect Ruth M. Simamora said the successful unification demonstrates that reconciliation within advocate organisations is achievable if all parties share the same commitment. “A united advocate organisation is not impossible, provided there is a will. AAI Nasional Bersatu is an example that should be emulated by other advocate organisations,” said Ruth. Following the election of the Chairman and Secretary-General, the Munaslub also formed a formateur team tasked with structuring the reconciled organisation. The team will complete the composition of the Honourary Council, Advisory Board, Supervisory Commission, and leadership at the central and regional levels. Arman Hanis, who is part of the formateur team, explained that besides appointing the board, the Munaslub also ratified the articles of association for the new organisation and officially adopted the name Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia Nasional Bersatu. “The spirit of AAI remains, but we are no longer using the old name of Asosiasi Advokat Indonesia because this is a new organisation born from the unification of two previously divided AAIs,” said Arman. He expressed hope that the new organisation can continue the aspirations of the AAI founders while serving as an example for other advocate organisations facing internal differences. Meanwhile, Ranto Simanjuntak, also a member of the formateur team, stated that the organisational consolidation process will soon continue to the regional level. According to him, branch boards will be formed through branch meetings to ensure the reconciliation results are effective throughout Indonesia. “Because this is a unification of two DPPs, the DPCs are expected to hold branch meetings. In some regions, there may be two or three DPCs, so they will deliberate to determine the new leadership,” said Ranto. Through AAI Nasional Bersatu, all parties hope the reconciliation achieved via the Joint Reconciliation Munaslub will not only serve as a foundation for strengthening the professionalism, integrity, and unity of the advocate organisation in supporting law enforcement in Indonesia, but also become an example for other advocate organisations in resolving differences through deliberation and a spirit of togetherness.
