One year after a demonstration that ended in a riot at the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Regional Police Headquarters, DIY Police Chief Inspector General Anggoro Sukartono has confirmed that the security situation in the Yogyakarta area remains conducive, safe, and under control. Anggoro said that all community activities in Yogyakarta continue to be monitored and reported. The DIY Regional Police have also prepared personnel and security measures to anticipate various public activities throughout August.

“Conducive, all situations in Jogja are under control, all community activities are reported and monitored. And the National Police, in this case the DIY Regional Police, have prepared all aspects of security,” he said when met at the Kepatihan Complex in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

According to him, security preparations are not only being made to anticipate potential mass actions, but also cover various agendas involving large numbers of people, such as football matches, music concerts, and other community activities. “The deployment of forces in securing community activities, including predictions of football activities, concert events, music, everything is ready,” he said.

The Police Chief emphasised that to date there are no indications of activities that could potentially lead to security disturbances as feared by some parties. Information and issues circulating regarding potential security disturbances were also said to be inconsistent with conditions on the ground.

“So the situation is conducive. If there are issues circulating, they are not true,” he said.
