A Wise Path Towards Golden Indonesia 2045

As we approach ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’ in approximately 19 years, we stand at a crossroads of hope and challenge. On one hand, the dream of becoming a developed, sovereign, and prosperous nation is drawing closer. On the other hand, the problems we face are becoming increasingly complex, spanning the economy, social inequality, the need for equitable education, and the necessity of expanding employment opportunities.

Consider, for example, the rapid growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, this growth is not driven by opportunity, but by necessity—a struggle for survival amidst intense competition and a lack of formal job opportunities. When university graduates are forced into the informal sector and factories lose their competitiveness, a simple question arises: are we truly moving towards a golden era, or are we merely surviving a storm?

In reality, this period should be a golden age—a time when the demographic bonus becomes a strength, industries advance, and every young person has a clear future. Yet, the challenges we face today are accumulating. The economy is shaken by import surges, education is disconnected from industry needs, and formal jobs are becoming increasingly scarce. Consequently, micro-MSMEs are flourishing, not because the ecosystem is healthy, but because many people have no choice but to survive. This remains a significant task for us to address before we can truly realise the vision of Golden Indonesia.
