A Week In, No Applicants for NTB Broadcasting Commission Selection
The registration for candidates for the Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) for the 2026-2029 period has been open since 22 June 2026. However, entering the first week of the registration period, not a single participant has officially registered. The Chair of the KPID NTB Selection Committee, Ahsanul Khalik, revealed that although the registration files are still empty, a wave of enthusiasm is beginning to show. Many prospective participants have started actively consulting regarding the completeness of documents. “As of yesterday, I checked and no one has registered yet. But several people have already asked about police clearance certificates (SKCK), administrative requirements, and what needs to be prepared to take part in the selection,” said Khalik on Monday (29/6/2026). The Head of the NTB Communication, Informatics and Statistics Agency (Kominfotik) considers the lack of registrants at the start to be normal. According to him, candidates are currently busy completing the substantial document requirements. Some of the documents that must be prepared include an SKCK, a certificate of physical and mental health, a drug-free certificate, and a letter of support from a community figure or civil society organisation. Khalik stated that registration remains open until 21 July 2026. He is optimistic that the volume of applicants will surge near the closing deadline. “I am sure it will be busy later because many have already asked about the process. Indeed, they are currently preparing various administrative requirements,” he added. Dismissing negative issues that often plague public agency selection processes, Khalik put his reputation on the line. He fully guaranteed that this selection process will run transparently, objectively, and cleanly, free from the malpractice of insider routes. “I guarantee there are no entrusted candidates. Since I was appointed to the selection committee, there has not been a single entrustment, neither from the governor, deputy governor, nor officials in the provincial government. This selection is purely based on the participants’ abilities,” he stressed. Khalik explained that the Selection Committee’s duties lie within the corridor of administrative selection, written tests, psychological tests, and interviews. The committee will later select participants who pass the score standardisation to be submitted to the legislature. “We in the selection committee submit participants who pass all stages, a minimum of 14 people or more, to undergo the fit and proper test at the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD),” he outlined. Ultimately, Commission I of the NTB DPRD holds the final gavel to appoint the 7 elected commissioners. According to him, in line with KPI regulations, incumbents who pass administrative verification can directly proceed to the fit and proper test stage at the DPRD without having to take the Selection Committee’s written test and interview. Despite receiving this red carpet treatment, their positions are not automatically secure. Their digital track records and performance during their tenure will be thoroughly scrutinised. The public is also urged to actively provide input. “The public can provide input regarding the incumbents’ track records to the selection committee or the DPRD. If their track record is poor, that can be a consideration so they are not passed in the fit and proper test,” he concluded.
