A tug-of-war at 'TVRI'
A tug-of-war at 'TVRI'
Controversy has again erupted among TVRI employees following a letter by the TVRI Workers Union (FSP TVRI) suggesting that TVRI president director Sumita Tobing be dismissed as many TVRI programs, which are financed from the state budget, are popular with only a minority of the population. Two examples are "Dansa Yo Dansa" (Let's Dance) and "Jazz Night".
This letter has led to many protests as FSP TVRI seems to be only disrupting the progress that TVRI has been making, as some of its new programs have indeed gained popularity among TV viewers. Hundreds of people recently gathered to show their support for TVRI. They have asked other parties not to do anything to disrupt the progress that TVRI has made.
Indeed, since Sumita Tobing was named president director of TVRI, attempts have been made to remove this well-reputed television expert. It is public knowledge that TVRI is a lucrative place. Many projects and programs can bring in money to the officials concerned. That's why when the new chief is putting things in order, many officials in danger of losing their positions have tried to fight back. A tug of war of between two different interests has rocked TVRI.
The victims are the employees who are professionally dedicated to their jobs as TVRI is the target of media coverage now.
So, TVRI employees must be united and work for the progress of the institution. They must shun their own individual interests, let alone the interests of those afraid of losing an opportunity to line their pockets. May TVRI make more progress and serve its viewers better. -- Warta Kota
