A tribute to Bagong Kussudiardja

Sanggit, a theatrical dance by noted choreographer Bagong
Kussudiardja, will be staged at Taman Ismail Marzuki on Aug. 12
and Aug. 13.

Sanggit describes the inability of a god named Sang Hyang
Jagad Giri Nata to control his emotions upon seeing the chaos on
Earth. His advisers, Semar and Togog, come to give counsel and
criticism.

The dance will be performed by a group of renowned artists
including Butet Kartaredjasa, Susilo Nugroho and Whani Dharmawan,
with the music performed by Djaduk Ferianto.

This show is being staged to commemorate Bagong, who died
last year.
