A tree for a child program launched

BOGOR (JP): The start of a nationwide regreening campaign involving hotels was marked with a tree planting ceremony at Bogor Botanical Gardens here on Wednesday.

A government representative and member of the expert staff of the state minister of the environment, Sudarsono, said the campaign was aimed at increasing awareness of environmental conservation among the business community and providing funds for the education of destitute children.

The program, called "A tree for a child", is sponsored by the Accor hotel chain in Indonesia.

Accor operational director Gerard Guillouet said the hotel chain, one of the International Hotels Environment Initiatives (IHEI) founders, had planted quickly growing trees for sale. Funds for the education of poor children are also being raised through the sales of recycled merchandise. (21)
