A traveler's tale
A traveler's tale
From Kompas
On June 28, 1996 I left at about 1:20 p.m. from Jl. Daan
Mogot, West Jakarta, heading for Jl. Kiai Tapa. I stopped at the
red lights at the Grogol intersection. Suddenly a man turned up
by the side of my car, pointing a knife at me. Not satisfied with
the money he found in my wallet, he insisted that the driver
surrender her bracelet. Nobody helped us for fear of being
mobbed by members of his gang,
A colleague told me that hold-ups also happen at Cempaka Putih
intersection, in Central Jakarta. These bandits are desperate
people who operate even though traffic is heavy.
I suggest that the authorities take the necessary measures to
guarantee security in those bandit-plagued areas.
