A touching concert
A touching concert
From Bisnis Indonesia
On Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, private television station Indosiar aired noted singer Bob Tutupoly's Widuri Concert. It was really a touching occasion.
Tutupoly, the presenter of Indosiar's weekly oldies program called Tembang Kenangan (Memory Lane Melodies), brought on stage a number of children, who sang merrily and happily because they had benefited from the Peduli Kasih (Loving Care) program made part of Tembang Kenangan. Through the Peduli Kasih program, Tutupoly encouraged the public to donate money for the treatment of poor children who were physically disabled.
Another television station, particularly state television TVRI should also have similar programs to help the poor, especially poor children.
Music programs must no longer be a demonstration of glamor and luxury. Instead, they should show sympathy for, and solidarity with, the poor.
It must be borne in mind that many people in regions across the archipelago can no longer afford to buy rice now.
