A tiger mauls palm oil worker to death
JAKARTA: A Sumatran tiger is believed to have mauled to death a palm oil plantation worker in Indonesia's Riau province, reports said on Thursday.
Muis was found unconscious with deep gashes in his chest and belly at the plantation in Siak district in Riau province on Tuesday, the report said.
Villagers said Muis had been attacked by a Sumatran tiger which had been sighted in the area before. They rushed him to hospital, where he died.
Tigers have repeatedly been sighted in plantations and paddy fields in Siak district. The local nature protection office says they are being forced out of their shrinking jungle habitat due to encroaching plantations and settlements.
The office has trapped seven Sumatran tigers in Riau this year. -- AFP
