A Thousand Mangroves Planted to Protect Aceh's Coastline from Abrasion

A total of 1,000 mangrove seedlings have been planted in the Asoe Nanggroe Beach area, Banda Aceh, as part of a collaborative environmental movement involving the government and the private sector. The planting, which took place on Sunday (19/7/2026), is a strategic effort to maintain the balance of the coastal ecosystem, protect the shoreline from abrasion, and preserve the habitat for various marine biota. Children were also involved in the activity to cultivate a sense of care for the environment and coastal ecosystems from an early age. The mangrove planting movement serves as part of a coastal rehabilitation effort whilst simultaneously strengthening the resilience of coastal areas against the impacts of climate change. Mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastlines from erosion, dampening wave energy, and serving as a habitat for various species of fish, crabs, and birds.
