The vibrancy of the 8th Semarapura Festival in 2026 successfully drew the attention of thousands of eyes. This event, which ran for four days (28 April-1 May), was not only a people’s cultural feast but also recorded an extraordinary economic turnover.

detikBali attempts to summarise a series of sweet notes from the festival, which is included in the 2026 Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) calendar.

Opened with the Heroic Fragment ‘Puputan Klungkung’

The festival’s excitement was felt from the first day, Tuesday (28/4/2026). Assistant Deputy for Event Strategy of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy RI, Fransiskus Handoko, along with Klungkung Regent I Made Satria and Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra, opened the event with great enthusiasm.

The opening proceedings began with a resounding performance of Adi Mardangga, followed by the emotional Fragment ‘Puputan Klungkung’. Spectators were also treated to the Drama Gong performance ‘Sari Budaya Nusa Penida’ as well as a lineup of top Balinese pop artists such as Bayu KW, Margi, and Bagus Wirata.

At the same time, Satria explained that this year’s festival carried the theme Smarana Atita Prabha, which means light from past memories.

“We want to invite the community to reflect again on historical values and preserve ancestral heritage as the foundation for regional development. This is not just entertainment, but a space for local artists and SMEs to showcase their talents,” emphasised Regent Satria.

Preserving Culture and Strengthening the People’s Economy

At the closing night on Friday (1/5/2026), Satria in his speech reaffirmed that the Semarapura Festival is not only an entertainment venue but also a strategic means for cultural preservation, tourism promotion, and strengthening the creative economy of the community.

“Through this festival, we not only celebrate arts and culture but also drive the wheels of the community’s economy. The presence of visitors from various regions, even abroad, has provided positive impacts for local businesses, especially in the tourism and creative economy sectors,” he stated.

He also emphasised the Klungkung Regency Government’s commitment through the innovative ‘Bapak Keren’ programme (Assistance for Financing Social Security Contributions for Vulnerable Workers). This programme has provided protection to as many as 8,685 vulnerable workers in the period from December 2025 to March 2026, as a tangible form of government presence in improving community welfare.
