The murder and mutilation case involving Saepul against a man identified as K has revealed a series of shocking facts. The gruesome act is currently being investigated by the police.

Saepul killed K, whom he met through a community app for same-sex relationships, at his rented room in Cipayung, Depok, on 23 July 2026. The victim was left dying before being mutilated.

The victim’s body was placed in a sack. The sack containing the corpse had been lying on vacant land in Depok since 24 July 2026. Residents had no idea the sack contained human remains until Tuesday, 4 August, when locals decided to burn the sack, believing it contained rubbish.

Saepul has been charged under Articles 458 and 459 of the Criminal Code relating to premeditated murder. For his heinous actions, Saepul faces the death penalty.

After the murder, Saepul made off with the victim’s belongings. He then sold the victim’s items through Facebook.

“Based on the examination results, the suspect sold the victim’s belongings through the Facebook marketplace,” said Kompol Dimitri Mahendara, Unit 1 Head of the Mobile Investigation Sub-Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, when contacted on Sunday (9/8/2026).

Dimitri said Saepul sold the victim’s belongings cheaply, ranging from a motorcycle to a mobile phone. The proceeds were used for daily living expenses.

“A Honda PCX motorcycle was sold for Rp 9.9 million, while an OPPO Reno 5 mobile phone was sold for Rp 950,000. The total proceeds amounted to Rp 10,850,000. According to the suspect’s statement, the money was then used for daily needs,” he explained.

It later emerged that Saepul was a chocolate banana seller at Pondok Cina Station. He had also participated in a talent search competition on a television station.

Old video footage shows Saepul appearing on screen when he took part in a television talent search programme. In the viral video, Saepul said he joined the talent competition to help ease the burden on his mother, who sold vegetables at the market. His statement at the time moved the audience.

detikcom confirmed the video with Kompol Dimitri Mahendara. Dimitri confirmed that Saepul had indeed participated in a talent search competition.

“That’s right, that’s him. It’s also on his TikTok account,” said Dimitri on Friday (7/8).

Dimitri said Saepul had previously worked as a teacher at a junior high school in Pandeglang, Banten. That is why he fled to Pandeglang after killing and mutilating K.

“According to the suspect’s confession, he was once a mathematics teacher at a junior high school in Pandeglang, Banten, but no longer,” he added.

Saepul is said to have planned the theft of the victim’s belongings and the murder in advance. Saepul has now been named a suspect and is being held at the Polda Metro Jaya detention centre.

Ipda Breggy Yesaya Imanuel Sutijono, Special Crimes Unit 2 of Unit 1 of the Mobile Investigation Sub-Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, revealed Saepul’s motive for killing the victim. Saepul told police he was upset because the victim refused to have sexual relations with him.

“The initial argument began because, from our investigation, the perpetrator was involved in same-sex relationship circles,” said Breggy in his statement on Sunday (9/8/2026).

Breggy said the victim not only refused to have sexual relations but also slapped Saepul’s cheek. This led to an argument that ended in murder.

“From there, the perpetrator began trying to have relations with the victim. The victim then did not accept it and slapped the perpetrator’s cheek,” he said.

“From there an argument began, until the perpetrator took a knife to stab the victim,” he said.

Saepul is said to have joined five LGBT groups. All of these groups were on social media and the WhatsApp messaging application.

“From our investigation of the perpetrator, we can conclude that he is a same-sex relationship enthusiast,” he said.

Breggy said Saepul was involved in several LGBT platforms. In total there are five groups through Facebook and WhatsApp.

“Firstly, the perpetrator was involved in several LGBT groups on several platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp. There are a total of five groups that we are currently investigating,” he said.

Police are still conducting searches along the Licin River in Cipayung, Depok, West Java, to look for the leg of K (51), the victim of Saepul’s mutilation. Police have urged residents to report if they know the whereabouts of the victim’s body parts.

“The search is still ongoing. We ask for help from the public; if anyone knows anything, please report it to the police,” said Kompol Dimitri Mahendara when contacted on Sunday (9/8/2026).
