A Resident Dies After Being Beaten by a Neighbour Over Taking Two Labu Siam (Chayote) in Cianjur
A resident identified as M, 56, died after being beaten by his neighbour, Ujang Ahmad, 41, over the taking of two labu siam (chayote) from the neighbour’s garden in Cianjur on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The victim suffered bruising, vomiting and died after receiving treatment. The Cugenang Police Chief, Police Commissioner Usep Nurdin, said the assault took place on Saturday in front of the victim’s house in Kampung Bayabang, Talaga Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. The assailant beat the victim with bare hands. ‘The offender struck the victim with bare hands and kicked him, resulting in bruising around the eyes, head, injuries to the neck, bruising on the shoulder and arm, a nose bleed and vomiting,’ he said on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He said the attack was linked to the alleged theft of two labu siam from the garden. The victim had briefly fled to his home and was chased by the offender before the beating. The police chief said the victim’s sister, Cucum, tried to intervene. The victim then admitted taking two labu siam and showed them to his sister while walking unsteadily due to head dizziness. ‘On Monday, 2 March 2026, the victim died at around 11:30 WIB at his home,’ he added. Police conducted further investigations and carried out an autopsy at Cianjur General Hospital (RSUD Cianjur). The suspect was subsequently arrested by officers from the Cugenang Police on Tuesday, 2 March 2026. External examination of the victim’s body showed a lump at the back of the head, scrapes on the forehead, bruises on the neck and eyelids, bruises and scrapes on the right arm, bruising on the elbow, bruises and scrapes on both legs, and blood at the nostrils.
