A penny a day

A penny a day

From Gatra

The drive to coax people into saving money has had results, as can be seen from the steady yearly increase of the number of depositors.

I think that the number of depositors can still be augmented, by targeting schoolchildren as well as adults.

Bank Indonesia, which initiated the drive, in cooperation with the government could strongly recommend to:

1. Schools, from kindergarten to university, to require a photocopy of students' savings books when they register, or collect certificates.

2. The National Land Agency, the state-owned electricity company, PT Telkom, the city water company, the Kelurahan office, the vehicle registration section of the police, etc. to require a photocopy of applicant's savings books when they apply for land certificates; electricity, telephone and water connections; an ID card; a driver's license or vehicle registration.

More people will realize the benefits of regularly saving money. If saving becomes part of our culture, the family and country will be prosperous.
