A Peek into VinFast Motorcycle Production: Automatic Robots & Advanced Technology
HANOI, KOMPAS.com – VinFast’s electric motorcycle production in Hai Phong, Vietnam, relies on thousands of automated robots to achieve a capacity of 500,000 units per year. This 335-hectare facility implements Industry 4.0 technology to ensure precision in every electric scooter unit before distribution to global markets, including Indonesia. A visit to the factory was conducted on Thursday (23/4/2026) to observe the manufacturing process directly. CEO of VinFast e-Scooter Indonesia, Yordan Setiadi, explained that operations in Vietnam are part of the company’s ecosystem strategy, which also includes the Indonesian market. “Last year, we realised an investment for building a factory in Subang, West Java. Through the Vingroup ecosystem, which covers battery production to electric transportation services, we are committed to the long-term Indonesian market,” Yordan stated. The initial stage begins in the Body Shop, designed by German consultant Dürr. In this area, the motorcycle frame welding process is entirely handled by ABB robots to maintain precision standards. Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) technology is applied to join frame components. The use of robotics at this stage aims to ensure every frame meets uniform specifications according to the specified technical standards. After the frame is completed, the process continues to the Paint Shop with an automation level of 95 percent. This facility has two painting lines dedicated to plastic components and steel frames. In addition to production aspects, the facility is equipped with gas and water waste treatment systems. This system is designed to manage operational waste residues to meet environmental standards before release from the factory area. The final process takes place in the General Assembly, using equipment from Japan.
