A noble profession
Thanks for printing the story, War ethics: Saving a Marine's killers in Iraq in The Jakarta Post, Sunday, April 6, 2003. I am sure all who read it were deeply touched by it. The Navy doctor, Manan Trivedi's team acted in the best traditions of a medical team anywhere in the world, which should act the same way in war as in peace.
A doctor's calling is to save human life. His calling and the Hippocratic oath that he takes when he enters this noble profession are supreme -- even to military orders.
I am amazed that there is anger among the Marines when the USA professes to take a high moral ground even while fighting a war for reasons best known to it.
