A motorcyclist dies after being struck by a fallen tree in South Jakarta
Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said a motorcyclist died after being struck by a fallen tree in South Jakarta.
‘The victim died at the scene and has been transported to hospital,’ BPBD Jakarta Acting Head Isnawa Adji said on Sunday.
According to him, heavy rain and strong winds caused a tree on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung, in the Jagakarsa district of South Jakarta, to topple at around 02:30 WIB.
The tree fell onto a motorcyclist who was passing by, resulting in the victim’s death at the scene. The identity of the victim was still being documented, and the body has been taken to Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital, Kelapa Dua.
‘The fallen tree was caused by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds,’ he added.
He also said that officers had dealt with the tree that briefly blocked Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung to ensure traffic could return to normal. ‘The tree blocking access to the road is currently being handled by the relevant department,’ he said.
In addition to the fallen tree, the heavy rain and strong winds in Jakarta caused flooding in several areas of the capital, with depths ranging from 20 cm to 1.5 metres.
