A More Peaceful Journey Home: Join PLN's Free Mudik Programme, Hear from Participants!
The Mudik Gratis BUMN 2026 programme, supported by PT PLN (Persero), brought joy to the public wishing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 H with their families in their hometowns. Beyond providing cost-free travel, the programme offered a safe, comfortable, and communal mudik experience. Jefry, a mudik participant from Kediri, East Java, directly experienced the benefits of this programme. For him, it not only facilitated the journey home but also helped save costs, allowing for more efficient travel budgeting. He even admitted to having participated in the programme twice and always reaping its benefits. “This programme is very helpful, especially in terms of costs. If mudik on my own, the expenses are quite substantial, especially mudik with my wife. With this programme, it’s much lighter and certainly arrives at the destination safely,” Jefry stated. The ease of the registration process and the sense of safety during the journey were felt by other participants. Annisa, a mudik participant from Blitar, considered the insurance protection from PLN Insurance to make the journey feel more serene. Additionally, the simple re-registration process further eased participants. “The registration process is easy and not complicated. Plus, there’s insurance protection from PLN Insurance, so I feel more at ease during the journey,” Annisa said. The provision of protection through PLN Insurance is part of the company’s commitment to ensure mudik participants travel safely and comfortably. With the insurance, participants enjoy a more serene and enjoyable journey. This year, PT PLN (Persero) dispatched 12,500 mudik participants, 9,404 of whom were transported by train in the Mudik Gratis BUMN 2026 programme. The symbolic departure took place at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/3/2026). According to PLN’s Director of Legal and Human Capital Management, Yusuf Didi Setiarto, PLN’s participation in this programme not only facilitates travel but also delivers tangible benefits through safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly journeys. “This programme not only helps the public return to their hometowns more safely and comfortably but also embodies BUMN collaboration in providing more efficient and sustainable transportation solutions,” Yusuf Didi said in a statement on Sunday (22/3/2026). He added that the use of train transportation in this programme is estimated to reduce emissions by around 19 percent compared to if mudik participants used motorcycles. This underscores the important role of mass transportation in supporting government efforts to accelerate energy transitions while promoting decarbonisation. “Utilising mass transportation like trains is a concrete step to curb carbon emissions compared to private vehicles. Thus, besides providing benefits by facilitating family gatherings during the Eid festivities, this programme also has a positive environmental impact,” Yusuf Didi stated. Cumulatively, the Mudik Gratis BUMN 2026 programme successfully dispatched 116,688 mudik participants, surpassing the initial target of 104,000 participants. Specifically for trains, BUMN operated 99 train sets with a total of around 28,720 passengers departing from Jakarta and Surabaya to various cities in Central Java and East Java. In this programme, PLN itself contributed to dispatching a total of 12,500 participants from seven departure locations, namely Jakarta, Surabaya, Aceh, Bali, Padang, Makassar, and Balikpapan. They were transported by various modes, from buses and sea vessels to trains, with destinations to areas such as Central Java, East Java, West Java, and Sumatra. The mudik programme organised by PLN has been running routinely since 2019, as the company’s commitment to providing social benefits to the Indonesian public.
