Beijing (ANTARA) - Jin Ruirui, president of the Yi Embroidery Association at Mouding County, Yunnan Province, has dedicated herself to preserving this thousand-year-old craft while leading local embroidery artisans toward cultural prosperity and rural revitalisation.

With a history of more than 1,300 years, Yi embroidery features highly intricate patterns and diverse stitching techniques, and serves as an important medium for Yi culture.

Over the years, Jin has helped more than 2,000 women secure employment. Through various initiatives, the ancient craft has stepped out of the mountains and appeared on the runways of fashion weeks in cities such as Milan, New York, and Paris. Through its fusion with modern fashion design, the craft has repeatedly expanded its reach to new markets and audiences.

In 2023, Jin was elected deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China. During her tenure, she has submitted proposals on issues such as protection of Yi embroidery art and development of related industries, employment, education, and healthcare.

In this year’s “Two Sessions” meeting, Jin will focus on the growth of the Yi embroidery industry, youth mental health, and the prevention of juvenile delinquency.
