A millennium bash to remember at Hotel Mulia
Hotel Mulia Senayan will be the place to greet the new millennium for those who want to enjoy themselves and let the worry-warts take care of Y2K problems.
At center stage for its celebration is its Millennium Gala Dinner, featuring renowned composer and choreographer Guruh Soekarnoputra. He will be more than adequately complemented by the Twilite Orchestra, conducted by Addie MS.
The countdown will start at 8 p.m., with outstanding fare cooked up for the gala dinner by Hotel Mulia's team of chefs.
Revelers who wish to take part in Jakarta's biggest extravaganza to end one millennium and kick off the next should be sure to book soon.
"We already have had a lot of inquiries," said Sarah Hutabarat, assistant public relations manager. "We hope people will book early for their seats."
For people who prefer to enjoy an intimate dinner for two far from the madding crowd of the celebration, Hotel Mulia boasts a superb selection of restaurants spanning the continents.
Read that carefully: we are not talking about a hodgepodge of dishes from around the world lumped on a coffee shop menu, but individual restaurants cooking up specialty cuisine.
Il Mare Italian restaurant, located on the ground floor of the hotel, has already carved out its reputation as a site to savor food from the land of pasta and prosciutto. As its name implies (for those nonproficient in romance languages, il Mare means The Sea) the specialty of Italian chef Gabriele Noe is seafood, dressed and paraded out in all its festive splendor.
The culinary journey does not stop there. Feasts of delights will be available at the newly relaunched Samudra Suki Restaurant, already winning plaudits for its Indochine fare; Edogin, which marries Japanese and Californian; Samudra's Shark Fin for the best in Cantonese and other Chinese food; and the Cafe, with its international selections.
A delicious dinner can be followed by a leisurely coffee and dessert in the Cascade Lounge, which is renowned for its High Tea Buffet. Or get into the party spirit with a drink at CJ's Bar, with entertainment by Shiok Crew Band.
To prepare for the night to remember, Hotel Mulia has a grand fitness center. Work up an appetite on some of the most sophisticated fitness equipment in the country, and open your pores in the sauna and steam rooms. The hot and cold plunge pools will reinvigorate guests for the partying to come. A beautiful swimming pool on the same floor is the right spot to do a few laps, or let the kids splash around for some afternoon fun.
There will be no worries about elevators stopping in mid journey or the hotel plunging into darkness. Hotel Mulia Senayan has put in place its cures to ensure the Y2K bug does not leave its guests feeling under the weather. Systems have been tried out, staff put through their paces and the hotel is ready and waiting.
"We have long anticipated the worst of effects from Y2K, and have a fully implemented plan to deal with the worst it could throw our way," Sarah said. "Guests will not have to worry, but can get on with enjoying their special night." (brc)
