A matter of nationalism
A matter of nationalism
From Suara Karya
The evaluation made by the Institute of Information Flows Study (ISAI) concerning the danger of conditions in Aceh without media control can be justified. But when it meant that the control involved the belligerents, namely the Indonesian military (TNI) and the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM), ISAI seemed to ignore the actual problem of the nation.
The two sides should be distinguished from each other: One is a state defense apparatus striving to maintain the integrity and sovereignty of the state against separatism, and the other is a rebel group trying to break away from the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
Apart from the media coverage of Aceh, ISAI should have distinguished the status of each of the two in order to make an objective evaluation, by positioning itself as a component of the nation within NKRI.
Various parties have forced themselves to seek popularity and take revenge in connection with the past regime's policy, as proven by their activities that oppose the state's integrity, twist the facts and confuse heroism with betrayal.
The public will not tolerate anybody attempting to play elements of the nation off against each other because there is no compromise with traitors. To serve national interests there is no bargaining. Nationalism is above all to guarantee the continuity of NKRI.
