A Look at Zhuang Brocade Craft in Guangxi, China

Known for its vibrant colours and auspicious patterns, such as dragons and phoenixes, Zhuang brocade is one of China’s four renowned brocades. In 2006, the weaving skills of Zhuang brocade, a craft dating back to the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD), were included in China’s first batch of national intangible cultural heritage listings. Over the years, generations of Zhuang weavers in Guangxi have continued to innovate in brocade weaving techniques and product development while preserving traditional methods. A variety of products, including home decor, tourist handicrafts, and fashion apparel, are made from Zhuang brocade. These items sell well in both domestic and international markets.
