On Feb. 21, 1995 at 5 p.m. I drove from Pasar Baru to Jl. Gajah Mada. I stopped for a red light at the Jl. Sukarjo Wiryopranoto intersection. In front of me was a bajaj carrying a woman passenger. Suddenly five young men crossed from the right side of the road and looked at the bajaj. One of them tried to snatch the women's handbag and she struggled to retain her bag for some time. The man finally took her wallet out of her bag and the young gangsters calmly returned to their place and examined the contents of the wallet. The bajaj driver could do nothing to help the victim and no one tried to foil the blatant crime.
