A unique mosque newly built in Kampung Pamoyanan RT 01/13, Padaasih Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadhan.

The Jami' An-Nur Mosque, popularly known as the "Red Beret Mosque," was officially inaugurated by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto on Monday, 19 January 2026. The inauguration was a solemn yet warm occasion, with residents filling the mosque grounds and surrounding areas to witness the ceremony.

The mosque's dome is designed to resemble the Red Beret of Kopassus bearing four stars, symbolising the courage, dedication and loyalty of TNI soldiers in their service to the nation, whilst simultaneously representing Islamic values as the foundation for building a community of faith and piety.

The mosque is now preparing to welcome Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE, with its inaugural tarawih prayers held on Wednesday evening, 18 February 2026.

Local community leader Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Suroso said this year's Ramadhan marks a special moment. "Indeed, this is the inaugural Ramadhan for Jami' An-Nur Mosque following its completion and inauguration by the TNI Commander," he said.

The mosque's story began with an old building that could only accommodate 60 worshippers. Initially, Suroso had only intended to carry out simple renovations, but plans changed after he communicated with General Agus Subiyanto. The TNI Commander then decided to completely rebuild the mosque from scratch, with construction commencing on 13 June 2025. The mosque, which originally occupied a plot of just five tumbak, now stands grandly on 15 tumbak of land with a resin dome weighing three tonnes.

The mosque's unique beret-shaped dome design has become a subject of widespread discussion among netizens. The majority of online commentators have expressed puzzlement over why a place of worship was given a military aesthetic, with some arguing that the designers did not fully grasp the concept of a house of worship.

In addition to the Red Beret Dome Mosque, General Agus previously inaugurated a Four-Star Green Beret Dome Mosque in Pangandaran, West Java, on 1 March 2025, featuring a green beret dome with the Kostrad logo.
