Subang (ANTARA) - A sport utility vehicle burned out after being left parked by its owner at the Rest Area KM 130 on the Cikopo-Palimanan Toll Road (Cipali), on Sunday.

The incident occurred at the rest area on the Jakarta-bound lane, around 12:40 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), said Ardam Rafif Trisilo, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability Management Dept, Astra Tol Cipali, in a statement from Subang, West Java, on Sunday.

He said the incident occurred while the vehicle was parked and the driver was performing religious worship.

According to witnesses, flames appeared accompanied by smoke from the front bonnet and then engulfed the vehicle body. The incident is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the engine.

Firefighting teams from Subang were deployed, with two units to extinguish the blaze.

The officer stated that the blaze burning the vehicle was fully extinguished at 14:05 WIB.

“There were no casualties in this incident,” said Ardam.

The Cipali Toll operators stated that the conditions at the scene were under control and did not disrupt traffic on the main tolled route.

In response to the incident, Astra Tol Cipali urged all road users to regularly ensure the vehicle’s roadworthiness before travel for everyone’s safety.
