A Cabinet reshuffle pending?

Despite denials, rumors of a pending reshuffle continue to
spread. Because nothing has been done to clear up the issue, it
is only natural that diverse speculations regarding the possible
changes are widely circulating.

One question is whether the political parties that were
initially involved in the formation of the present Cabinet will
be content to let developments take their own course and not take
any action in order to ensure their constituencies' continued
support in the future.

No less important are the possible administrative and
managerial impacts of such a shakeup. In theory, a reshuffle
would be seen as useful if it helps to effectively improve the
government's performance. Whatever the case, coordination and
communication among ministers in the Cabinet is at present
admittedly widely regarded as poor. Thus it is on improving these
aspects that President Abdurrahman Wahid should put his
priorities.
