A Brief 1.5-Month Tenure: Nanik Deyang's Tearful Appointment to BGN Ends with Health-Related Resignation
Nanik S Deyang has officially resigned from her position as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). She announced her decision via her personal Facebook account on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. In the post, Nanik explained that her resignation was due to health conditions requiring her to undergo heart treatment abroad. She stated that she had personally conveyed her decision to President Prabowo Subianto. “I conveyed to the President with a thousand apologies that I must resign as Head of BGN for the sake of my health, and because the President was concerned and felt sorry for me, he agreed,” she wrote. Despite stepping down from the leadership role, Nanik said President Prabowo still wanted her to oversee the agency. She mentioned the President’s plan to form a supervisory board and appoint her as its chair. “Perhaps the President will form a supervisory board where I am told to become the chair (maybe I can still nag, as long as it doesn’t involve handling money, I swear I have acute trauma),” she wrote. Nanik had only served as Head of BGN for a short period after being inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Monday, 8 June 2026. She was appointed to replace Dadan Hindayana, who was dismissed after being named a suspect in an alleged corruption case related to the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG). Her appointment was based on Presidential Decree Number 18/M Year 2026 concerning the dismissal and appointment of the Head and Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency. Nanik’s inauguration drew public attention when she appeared visibly moved to tears while receiving congratulations from President Prabowo after taking the oath of office. During her brief tenure, she also came under the spotlight for avoiding journalists’ questions regarding the budget realisation for the procurement of electric motorcycles.
