A Boeing 737-200 airplane belonging to Mandala Airlines

A Boeing 737-200 airplane belonging to Mandala Airlines
skidded off the runway in Semarang's Ahmad Yani Airport on Friday
evening when landing during heavy rain. No fatalities were
reported, with officials saying that all 92 passengers and eight
crew members were safe and unhurt. Airport officials said that
the plane, flying from Jakarta, landed during heavy rain. As a
result, the plane skidded and the front wheels went off the
runway and the right engine appeared to be damaged. The plane
blocked the runway, prompting the airport management PT Angkasa
Pura I to close the airport. Purnomo of PT Angkasa Pura I said
that it was waiting for heavy equipment from Jakarta to remove
the plane, and he predicted it would take two days to clear the
runway. He suggested that all flights to Semarang be re-routed to
Surakarta's Adi Sumarmo Airport.
