A Beautiful Environment Begins with Upstream to Downstream Waste Management
A region’s success in creating a beautiful environment is inseparable from the implementation of a comprehensive and thorough cleanliness management system. One of the keys is the effectiveness of the waste management chain from upstream to downstream.
Strategic steps begin in the upstream areas, where waste production first originates—namely from households, schools, traditional markets, and office areas. In these upstream zones, local governments are actively promoting environmental awareness movements through massive education on sorting organic and inorganic waste at the source.
Building on this, the 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards were held for regions deemed capable of managing waste and maintaining a beautiful environment. These regions were included in the awards under the Waste Management and Beautiful Environment category.
This category assesses the commitment and performance of local governments in realising integrated waste management and creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The assessment covers waste management, environmental quality, and the effectiveness of programmes that have a real impact on the community. Regional innovation serves as added value in presenting creative, collaborative, and sustainable environmental solutions.
The 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards continue the series of appreciations previously held in several regions of Indonesia. Following the Sumatra Region in Batam, the Java and Bali Region in Bali, and the Kalimantan Region in Balikpapan, the series proceeded to the Sulawesi Region.
Several local governments in Sulawesi received recognition for the programmes and innovations they have implemented, including environmental management, improving access to health and education services, and providing decent housing for the community.
The 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Awards took place on Friday, 10 September 2026, at 19:00 WITA. The event was broadcast via live stream on detikcom and detikSulsel.
