995 Firearms Discovered at Private School in South Jakarta

The discovery of 995 firearms and other illegal items in a room at a private school in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta, has come under scrutiny. The case has been reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police.

The school foundation’s legal counsel, Hermawanto, stated that 995 firearms along with ammunition were found. The breakdown includes 776 air rifles, 215 pistols, and four 4.5 calibre rifles, discovered on 10-11 July 2026.

“Almost a month ago we found 995 firearms,” Hermawanto told reporters on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

In addition to the hundreds of firearms, Hermawanto said his team also discovered narcotics and dozens of pornographic CDs during a search conducted on Wednesday evening, 5 August 2026.

“Added to that, there were new findings last night: pornographic CDs, narcotics, and an AK-47, still in the same place,” Hermawanto stated.

When asked about the owner of the location, Hermawanto revealed that the searched room belonged to the former Chairman of the Foundation, with the initials IW.

“The room (of IW) that we dismantled is the room where we found all the evidence,” he said.

Previously, the Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko Adi Wibowo, stated that the case is still under investigation following a public report regarding the discovery of weapons on 15 July 2026.

“The South Jakarta Metro Police have received a report from the public regarding the discovery of weapons consisting of air guns and firearms stored in a room at a school foundation in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama,” Joko said when confirmed by the media on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

Joko explained that prior to the public report, officers had already filed a Model A police report. This step was taken because the discovery of the weapons, suspected to number in the hundreds, was already known to officers.

“Before the police report from the public, the South Jakarta Police had made a Model A Police Report shortly after the incident was discovered,” he said.

According to Joko, the Model A Police Report serves as the basis for investigators to begin the handling and investigation process. However, the exact number of weapons and the origin of ownership are still being traced.
